Talbort Rice Gallery jest jedną z wiodących szkockich galerii publicznych współczesnej sztuki wizualnej. To miejsce, które odwiedzam regularnie wraz z pojawiającą się kolejną wystawą. Piękne otoczenie - budynek Starego Uniwersytetu, niewątpliwie sprzyja atrakcyjności tego miejsca.
W okresie 23 października - 11 grudnia odbyła się bardzo ciekawa wystawa - The £40 Art Collection. Wystawa ta, to prywatny zbiór jednego z mieszkańców wyspy Arran, który będąc właścicielem dobrze prosperującego sklepu, postanowił przystąpić do Officers Emergency Army Reserve. Ku Jego zdumieniu kilkudniowe pobyty w Armii, przynosiły mu dochody około £40 miesięcznie. Pragnąc przeznaczyć ów pieniądze na cel wyjątkowy, za porozumieniem z żoną, postanowił realizować swoje artystyczne pasje. Otóż przez około 50 lat, każdego roku Tom Alexander pisał list do ulubionego artysty, prosząc o przesłanie obrazu wybranego przez niego samego.

Wśród pokaźnej kolekcji, zwłaszcza jeden przykuł moją uwagę - "Interior, Waldron Church" Johna Piper, jednego z wiodących malarzy Angielskich (13 December 1903 – 28 June 1992).
Obraz, przed którym stanęłam zachwycił mnie do głębi.. tak bardzo, iż postanowiłam sama go namalować. Oczywiście daleko mu do obrazu mistrza, jednak stanowi moją własną koneksję z tak wybitnym artystą.

In the period October 23 - December 11 was a very interesting exhibition - The £ 40 Art Collection. This exhibition, the private collection of one of the inhabitants of the island of Arran, who, being a successful shop owner, decided to join the Army Officers Emergency Reserve. To his surprise, a few days stay in the Army, brought him income of about £ 40 a month. Picture, before which I stood amazed me deeply .. so much, that I decided to paint it. Of course it is far from original picture, but it is my own connections with such an outstanding artist.
